My favorite movies
April 17th, 2006
For some reason I am compelled to write this down.
1. Miller’s Crossing
Was there ever a movie with better dialogue? Was any actor who appears in this movie ever better in any other role? (Hint: no, and no).
2. Brazil
Blows me away, every time. A masterpiece.
3. Lawrence of Arabia
Before seeing this I thought Peter O’Toole was a lightweight. Maybe he is, but his portrayal of T.E. Lawrence is captivating. An absolutely gorgeous film.
4. Star Wars
The first one (you know, Episode IV). The one where Solo drew first (Greedo had it coming). The Empire Strikes Back is also excellent.
5. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
A beautiful movie about the importance of imagination and of retaining a sense of wonder in our lives. Makes me cry every time.
Other movies I love, in no particular order: The Last Waltz, Local Hero, The Natural, Caddy Shack.
