construction083108Next week it’s appliances, plumbing, joy.

tile1Steve the tile guy is working now. Today is the last of 3 days of tile work. Here’s some detail on the backsplash behind the range. The highlight tiles are “tantrum glass”, Meilei’s favorite.

With a bit of luck, we will have our kitchen back by the end of next week!

kitchen1The kitchen cabinets are in, finished, and waiting for granite. Look at the lights Meilei picked out!

cabinets1On Friday the first half of the cabinets were delivered. For now they are squatting in the middle of the kitchen covered with a blue tarp. They look really great (except for that tarp) and we’re itching to see the rest of them. Gary comes back tomorrow and installation begins… yee haw!

Painting is done, inside and out. This panorama was made in the early morning before Jody arrived to continue working on the lights and before the cabinets arrived. Yes, that’s right… about half of our new cabinets are sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor, just waiting for Gary to get back on Monday. Meilei is beside herself with excitement.

The new TV was delivered today too… for the time being it is just sitting in the middle of the floor, looking black.

Meilei got a look at the new cabinets.

The remodeled house will feature a stained glass window between the entryway and the dining room. This morning we got a chance to see the artwork for the first time. I’m very excited!

Sheet rock is up, taped and mudded. Crown molding and trim, floor is underway, primer is on the walls. It’s starting to look like a room!

Bonus points if you can spot Meilei’s color experiment.

We returned on Sunday from our 2 week summer vacation (more on that later). There’s been great progress on the remodel since we left. The sheetrock is up, taped, and textured. The stucco is scratched, waiting the final coat. And the flooring work has started. Yow!

The day we left on vacation I made a couple of panoramic images, one in each room.

Next up, what it looks like now.
