I broke my mountain bike chain during the first 10 minutes of our ride this morning. The good news is I wasn’t 8 miles up a nasty hill. The bad news is I missed the ride and had to call for a lift from Meilei and the kids. When the chain pulled apart it ripped a hole in the front derailleur and pulled it back behind the large chain ring. Quite a mess. Crossroads Bicycles in Los Gatos got the bike up and running within an hour. The front derailleur had to be replaced, and the chain received a shiny new gold speed link.
Last night we hosted a big fake backyard campout party for Amelia and her friends. It was a riot! We roasted marshmallows and made s’mores, watched a movie, played with flashlights, and generally had a crazy fun time. Pictures.
We spent our summer vacation this year in Jackson, Wyoming. Our excuse for going was to attend Meilei’s friend Susan’s wedding, but we had always wanted to visit. Also it was Meilei’s Mom and Dad’s 40th anniversary. Jackson is beautiful, we were with people we love, and had lots to celebrate. How cool is that?
Lots of people pictures this time!
More Teton sunrise pictures to come…
Up and over Jones Trail, up Overgrown (aka Limekiln), down Priest Rock, then across Highway 17 to Montevina Road. Up Montevina into El Sereno OSP, and down Aquinas trail in El Sereno back to town. Today was the first time I’ve ridden up Montevina Road, and it’s a leg burner to be sure.
We had a group of 11 riders during the Overgrown portion. Once we thinned out to a team of 5 going up Montevina, the non-stop pain began!
Today’s ride was Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve south of San Jose. Just under 10 miles but with lots of climbing and great views.
We rode on on Skyline again this morning, following Saratoga Gap to Hickory Oaks trail, Long Ridge, Grizzly Flat, Table Mountain Trail, Charcoal Road (ouch), and finally Saratoga Gap again back to the cars.
